Factors that Contribute to Dry Skin

When a person does not receive enough moisture on their skin, it becomes dry. Dry skin can lead to unwanted acne and breakouts. Several factors can contribute to dry skin, including lifestyle and genetics. Here are a few reasons why you may be suffering from dry skin:

Over-washing

Over-washing your hands, face, and different areas of the body can lead to dry skin. When a person over washes their skin, nutrients, and minerals are stripped from the body; this leads to the skin becoming dry, red, and sensitive. When the skin gets too dry, this may lead to inflammation, which may cause acne and breakouts on the skin. To avoid dry skin, try to add a moisturizer immediately after washing. Doing this helps rehydrate the skin with nutrients and minerals, which helps reduce dry skin, redness, and inflammation on the skin.

Weather

Another contributing factor to dry skin is the weather. As the weather changes to cooler temperatures, it becomes easy for your skin to lose moisture; when this happens, the skin becomes dry. Additionally, when the weather is cooler outside, studies have shown that it is easy for water to quickly evaporate from the skin, which is another contributing factor to dry skin.

During the cooler seasons, it is important to stay moisturized and even add another layer of protection such an essential oil to prevent dry skin. Also, another helpful method is to wear protective clothing, so your body will be able to retain moisture.

Dehydration

Research has shown that dehydration is a contributing factor to dry skin. When the skin is dehydrated, it loses water and moisture, which leads to dry, dull skin. As a result, this causes premature aging on the skin, which increases fine lines and wrinkles. Research shows that drinking at least eight glasses of water a day will keep the body hydrated and aid in removing harmful toxins from the skin.
